Electrocardiogram (ECG / EKG)

An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart. It is used to detect heart conditions such as arrhythmias, heart attacks, and structural abnormalities.

No special preparation required. Avoid applying lotions to the chest area on the day of the test. Inform your doctor of any medications.

Electrodes (small sticky patches) are attached to the chest, arms, and legs. The test is painless, takes about 10 minutes, and records electrical signals from the heart.

Resume normal activities immediately. Results are interpreted by a doctor who will explain the findings.
